Feel free to do absolutely nothing but gaze out of the windows, but if you are feeling more energetic there's a wealth of interesting places nearby as well as - it goes without saying - the most amazing landscape. We are happy to help and advise whenever we can.

Sail on the unique Steam Gondola on Coniston Water
Visit Townend, an atmospheric house full of ornate folk-carvings
Visit Bowness and Windermere on the ferry (10mins), which lands close by the Love Shack

The Samling, a top local hotel between Ambleside and Windermere where an elegant and slightly formal lunch or dinner is a treat
Tarantella, a small Italian place in Ambleside with a nicely seasonal menu
The Church House Inn, an historic inn between Coniston and Torver with an up to date take on local dishes and ingredients
The Queen's Head, Troutbeck - a characterful pub great for a weekend lunch, between Ambleside and Windermere
The Cuckoo Brow Inn, the Shack's nearest pub in Far Sawrey, a very down to earth family inn where walkers and dogs can enjoy hearty and good value traditional food
Chesters, Chapel Stile, Langdale - lunch or tea with a nice interiors / gift shop next door
Booths Supermarkets, (Kendal, Windermere & Ulverston) - the place for a localy-sourced, quality stock-up and perhaps unexpectedly, one of the best places locally for a cooked breakfast or quick lunch
Howbarrow Organic, Order locally sourced organic meat, fruit and vegetables delivered to your door during your stay

Nearby Sawrey has a village shop open daily from Spring to early Autumn (15 mins walk from Shack) and Hawkshead nearby has a Co-op.
