Feel free to do absolutely nothing but gaze out of the windows, but if you are feeling more energetic there's a wealth of interesting places nearby as well as - it goes without saying - the most amazing landscape. We are happy to help and advise whenever we can.
EXCURSIONS
Visit Beatrix Potter's house "Hill Top" in nearby Sawrey
Visit Blackwell, a significant Arts & Crafts house (seen from the Shack terrace) with an ongoing exhibition programme
Visit Brantwood, near Coniston, home of Victorian polymath John Ruskin
Visit Levens Hall - a stunning and historic topiary garden
Sail on the unique Steam Gondola on Coniston Water
Visit Townend, an atmospheric house full of ornate folk-carvings
Visit Bowness and Windermere on the ferry (10mins), which lands close by the Love Shack
EATING OUT / SHOPPING We especially like the following places:
The Queen's Head, Troutbeck - an informal pub great for a weekend lunch, between Ambleside and Windermere
Chesters, Chapel Stile, Langdale - lunch or tea with a nice interiors / gift shop next door
Booths Supermarkets, (Kendal, Windermere & Ulverston) - the place for a localy-sourced, quality stock-up and perhaps unexpectedly, one of the best places locally for a cooked breakfast or quick lunch
Howbarrow Organic, Order locally sourced organic meat, fruit and vegetables delivered to your door during your stay
Sadly, Sawrey village recently lost its village shop, so the Hawkshead
Co-op is now the closest to the Shack.
